“My process is rooted in translating physical forms and body dynamics into clay, capturing a sense of movement and interaction.”
Through coil-building, I explore clay’s unique ability to convey both hard and soft qualities—a duality I find compelling in the hand-forming process.
The dark, richly textured clay body I work with offers a grounding depth that accentuates the contours and tension points I shape into each piece. I am particularly drawn to creating silhouettes that feel both stable and in flux, inviting viewers to consider how material and form interact at moments of strength and release. The form’s gentle curves and intentional indentations evoke bodily contours, inviting a tactile connection and a sense of natural tension.
A small, rounded lip contrasts with the larger, almost fluid silhouette, while a small porcelain circle on the bottom offers a hidden detail for careful viewers to discover. This piece creates a dialogue between functionality and abstraction. Through this work, I explore how clay can embody resilience while remaining receptive, emphasizing the interplay of strength and subtlety within a single, unified form.
